Luis Robert (wrist) remains out of the White Sox lineup on Thursday.

Robert did come off the bench on defense to finish out Wednesday night's loss to the Astros, but he is still unable to swing at full strength because of a nagging left wrist injury. A cortisone injection was administered on Wednesday and will hopefully help the cause. Eloy Jiménez, AJ Pollock, and Gavin Sheets starting across the outfield for Chicago on Thursday afternoon versus Houston.

Aroldis Chapman gave up two runs in the 10th against the Rays on Wednesday, but he wound up with a win anyway.

Scott Effross opened the 10th after pitching a scoreless ninth and got Harold Ramirez to ground out to begin the inning. Chapman came in at that point and proceeded to walk Isaac Paredes and Taylor Walls on a total of nine pitches. After striking out Jose Siri, he gave up a three-double to Francisco Mejía, putting him in line for the loss. Fortunately, the Yankees came back with a walkoff grand slam in the bottom of the inning. Still, this was bad timing for Chapman to stumble; he figured to be in the mix for saves with Clay Holmes on the IL. After tonight, Effross would seem to be the clear favorite for saves.

Yoán Moncada went 1-for-4 with an RBI double in Wednesday's loss to the Astros.

Moncada got the White Sox on the board with his RBI double in the bottom of the fourth, though his outfit ultimately would fail to find any real sustained success on offense in the end 3-2 loss. Over the course of 269 at-bats this season, Moncada is slashing a paltry .201/.265/.316 with six homers and 36 RBI. He has struggled to stay healthy this summer, appearing in just 73 total games due to various leg injuries.

Barrero gets game-ending hit as Reds beat Phillies 1-0.

José Barrero hit a game-ending RBI single off Seranthony Domínguez with two out in the ninth inning, and the Cincinnati Reds beat the Philadelphia Phillies 1-0 on Wednesday. Albert Almora Jr. helped set up Barrero's winning hit with a one-out walk. Almora advanced to second when Alejo López singled for his third hit, and then hustled home when Barrero hit a grounder back up the middle. ''I was fortunate enough to make contact,'' said Barrero, who had never faced Domínguez before. ''All I wanted to do was help the team by making contact.'' Barrero went 1-for-4 with an RBI and two strikeouts in the game. The 24-year-old has struck out 26 times in 48 big league at-bats this year.

José Abreu went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in Wednesday's loss to the Astros.

Abreu was the only White Sox batter to finish with multiple knocks in the end 3-2 defeat. Overall this season, the veteran slugger is slashing .309/.384/.467 with 14 home runs and 56 RBI in 443 at-bats. This would be his fourth career season of at least a .300 batting average if he can keep his numbers up through the end of the campaign.

Díaz hit two doubles and reach 30 extra-bases for the third time in his career,

Díaz went 2-for-6 with two doubles (#23 and 24) and three RBI on Wednesday in an 8-7 loss against the Yankees in New York. Díaz delivered an RBI double off starter Domingo Germán in the third inning to put the Rays up 1-0. Then, later in the fifth inning, Díaz laced another double off Germán bringing home two runners to extend Tampa's lead to 3-0. The two doubles allowed Díaz to collect 30 extra-bases in the season, a feat that he has achieved three times in his six years at MLB level. Díaz is slashing .273/383/.388 with 6 homers, and 41 RBI this year and continues to be a solid and productive hitter for the Rays.

Adolis García went 1-for-4 with an RBI double in Wednesday's 7-2 loss to the A's.

García extended his ongoing hitting streak to 14 consecutive games after working an RBI double off of Adam Oller in the bottom of the first inning. That would be his lone knock of the contest. Across 445 at-bats this season, 29-year-old outfielder García is slashing a solid .254/.301/.452 with 19 home runs, 74 RBI and 17 steals.

Orioles' Cionel Pérez: Ineffective against the Jays.

Cionel was hit hard by the Jays in Wednesday's 6-1 loss to the division rivals. With the game showing no score Cionel came in relieve of Joey Krehbiel in the seventh, and Springer, hitting for Raimel Tapia, welcomed him breaking the deadlock with a base hit to center on an 0-2 pitch. The lefthander ended up allowing Santiago Espinal's double that brought two runs home and then walked Danny Jansen before being replaced by Louis Head. It was an horrible outing for Cionel who allowed three earned runs to see his season ERA climbing to 1.77.

White Sox manager Tony La Russa said after Wednesday's game that Luis Robert received a cortisone injection in his injured left wrist.

Robert apparently experienced some soreness in his left wrist after swinging on Tuesday, so he received the injection to combat the inflammation. La Russa was quick to reiterate that he still didn't feel like Robert would require a stint on the injured list. He's still considered day-to-day, but eventually something has to give here.

Astros placed INF/OF Aledmys Díaz on the 10-day injured list with a left groin strain.

Díaz suffered the injury while making a nice running catch on a sinking line drive in the outfield during Tuesday's game. It's not yet clear how long he'll be sidelined. J.J. Matijevic was recalled from Triple-A Sugar Land in a corresponding move.

Luis Robert (wrist) was held out of the White Sox starting lineup once again on Wednesday.

Robert continues to progress in his recovery from a sprained left wrist and is still expected to avoid the injured list, but he'll need at least another day before he's ready to return. Adam Engel is starting in his place in center field and batting eighth for the White Sox against Framber Valdéz and the Astros on Wednesday night in Chicago.

Padres beat Marlins 10-3, Adrián Morejón got the win.

Adrián Morejón earned his fourth career victory on Wednesday night, when the Padres beat the Marlins 10-3 in Miami. Morejón relieved starter Mike Clevinger in the fifth inning pitching 1 2/3 perfect innings with three strikeouts to earn the win. It was Morejón fourth career win improving his 2022 season record to 2-0 with a 3.71 ERA. The young lefthander has been phenomenal in his last seven games going 7 2/3 scoreless innings with 5 hits, a walk, and seven strikeouts.

White Sox's Yasmani Grandal: Got rest day. Grandal was out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Astros. Grandal will be getting a breather after he started each of the past three games -- two at catcher and one as a designated hitter -- while going 2-for-9 with two walks. Though Grandal remains the White Sox's top option behind the plate, his grip on the No. 1 role has loosened while he's submitted a disappointing .565 OPS over 283 plate appearances on the season in addition to missing time due to injury. Seby Zavala will catch for starting pitcher Lucas Giolito on Thursday.

Nationals' Yadiel Hernández: Remained out of lineup. Hernandez did not start Wednesday against the Cubs, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reported. Hernández was out of the lineup for a second consecutive game since left-hander Drew Smyly was on the mound for the Cubs. Alex Call started in left field and batted eighth. Late in the game Hernández came into the game as a pinch hitter and went 0-for-1.
